I've been writing about juried art competitions and the open exhibitions of art societies and the like for nearly 10 years. As a result thousands of people around the world follow my blog as a result.

During that time I've also learned about:
  • THE GOOD: how organisers can be really helpful to those who help generate publicity and
  • THE BAD: the ways in which organisers can let themselves, the competition and the artists down by being neither competent nor organised.​
There came a point when I wanted to say "enough is enough" - the same mistakes were being made time and time again.

It was as if there was a lack of understanding, no learning and no sharing of what made for a good experience when it came to publicity.


So I decided to share what I know - and wrote a blog post 
To all organisers of art competitions and open exhibitions introducing the new Guide I had written
​- and the reasons why I wanted to share my perspective on how they could improve what they do to help me do what I do.
There's a lot already done that is good - and I do want to emphasise I get a lot of help from some PR people - but there's also quite a lot of scope for improvement. Below I'm sharing the good practices that I know exist - and a few tips of my own! 
Everything that follows is based on items I have to ask for time and time again and/or issues that have an unhappy habit of recurring.
